September 4th & 5th, 2010, 23rd Sunday Ordinary time


Fr. Philip Bradley will today commence his new appointment with us here in Milltown. To mark this occasion there will be a welcoming reception in the Parish Pastoral Centre for Fr. Philip after the 10am and 11.30 am Mass. All welcome to attend.

We offer our condolences to the family and friends of the late Marie Keating whose funeral Mass took place in our parish church during the week.

We thank you for last Sunday’s Offertory Collection of €1,220 and the Share Collection which amounted to €981.

We congratulate Mary and Dick O’Flaherty on their 50th Wedding Anniversary which was celebrated at the 10am Mass on Wednesday last.

The Milltown Parish Autumn Programme for 2010 will be circulated over the coming days. Please contact the parish office if you have not received your copy of this parish publication.

The Milltown Parish Active Retirements Group will recommence their ‘Gentle Activity to Music’ sessions in the Parish Pastoral Centre at 10.45 on next Tuesday, September 2nd.

The Milltown Guild of the I.C.A. will commence their Thursday morning ‘Craft Morning’ at 10am in the Parish Pastoral Centre. This gathering will provide an opportunity for craft workers to share their creative talents. The Crochet Group will also meet at this time.

The Milltown Parish Active Retirement Group will visit Mellifont Abbey and Carlingford on Wednesday September 15th. If you would like to go on this outing please give your name into the Parish Pastoral Centre before September 8th. The cost for this outing is €20.

The Milltown Parish Book Club will meet in the Parish pastoral centre at 10.30am on Wednesday Sept. 15th. New members are welcome to join this group.

There will be a Coffee Morning in the Parish Pastoral Centre On Thursday week, September 16th. All proceeds from this event will be donated to Our Lady’s Hospice in Harold’s Cross.

Details of a forthcoming ‘Residential Weekend for the Bereaved’ are on the Parish Notice Boards. Please contact the Parish Office if you would like to attend this weekend which explores the loss of our loved ones and the meaning of death from a Christian perspective through prayer, meditation, discussion, videos and sharing.

Planning for the Milltown Parish Fun Day is ell under way. However additional volunteers are urgently required to help on the day.

Weekly Bulletin 21st & 22nd August

There will be a special collection at all Masses this weekend to contribute to the relief assistance and the reconstruction in Pakistan. The special collection will replace the regular Share collection.


Following the 10 am and 11.30 am Mass on Sunday next, August 29th, parishioners are invited into the Parish Pastoral Centre for tea. This gathering will provide an opportunity for parishioners to say goodbye to Fr. Gerard who will take up his new appointment in Beaumont Parish on September 1st. We wish Fr. Gerard every blessing in his new appointment.

We thank you for last Sunday’s Offertory Collection of €1135, and the Share Collection which amounted to €759.

The Parish requires additional Altar Servers. Please contact one of the priests if your child is interested in joining this ministry. Children must have received their First Holy communion before becoming an altar server.

Any person who has a talent for singing or playing a musical instrument may be interested in joining a group who could participate in the 5.30pm Mass on Sunday evening. Please contact the Parish Office if you would like to be a member of this musical group.

On Thursday 26th August at 3pm, Fr. Kevin Scallan, CM a Servite Father will celebrate Mass for families affected by cancer. This Mass will take place in Kilmacud church and will include a talk by Sr. Briege Mc. Kenna. Anointing of the sick and blessing with the Relic of St. peregrine will be included in this Liturgy. An initial meeting has taken place to organise the Parish’s first Fun Day. Additional volunteers are urgently required to help with this day.

We thank you for last Sunday’s Offertory Collection of € 1203, and the Share Collection which amounted to €893.

The Share collection at Masses this weekend, (July 4th & 5th) will be replaced by the annual Collection for the Pope and Pontifical Charities (Peter’s pence).

There are Gorta bags for collection in the church porches. Please take one with you if you have any clothes, shoes etc. to donate to their Charity shops throughout the city. They would greatly appreciate if you could return your filled bag to the church on next Sunday morning before 12 o’clock. Since 1965 Gorta has supported over 1,500 projects in some of the world’s poorest countries, your support will help them continue the fight against hunger and poverty.
