Saturday & Sunday, October 24th & 25th, 2009 – Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time


Mass will be celebrated at 10am on this Bank Holiday Monday.

We offer our condolences to the family of the late Desmond Ormsby. His funeral Mass took place in our church during the last week.

During this time of Swine Flu infection it is recommended by the dioceses that people who receive the Eucharist on their tongue would perhaps receive by hand.

Please let one of the Priests, Sacristans or Parish Office know of any parishioners who may wish to receive Holy Communion in their home.

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament takes place in our Parish church for one hour after 10am Mass on Monday, Tuesday and Saturday mornings.

The annual November Mass for parishioners who died during the last year will take place at 6pm on Saturday November 7th.

The Parish Social Justice Group will meet in the Parish Pastoral Centre this Tuesday night, Oct.27th at 7.45. The purpose of this meeting is to organise the Bring and Buy Cake Sale which will take place on Nov.8th.

We remind parishioners to return their CHY2 form to the parish as soon as possible, as October 31st is the closing date for submitting these forms to the Revenue Commissioners.

A guided tour of the E.S.B. restored Georgian house at 29 Fitzwilliam St. has been arranged for parishioners. This tour will take place on the afternoon of Wednesday Nov. 4th at 2pm. Further details will be included in next week’s bulletin.

The next meetings of the Support Group for Carers will take place in Clonskeagh Hospital at 11am on 11th November and 1st of December. Further details of this Carers Support Programme are on church Notice Boards.

The next Residential Weekend of ‘Beginning Experience’ will take place in All Hallows College on Nov. 20th -22nd. Beginning Experience is a support group for men & women who are separated, divorced or widowed. Further details of this residential weekend are available on the church Notice Boards.

The Art Group continues to meet in the Parish Centre at 7.30pm on Tuesday evening. New members are always welcome to attend.

An additional Callanetics Class (exercise based on ballet and yoga) has commenced on Thursday evening at 8pm in the Parish Centre. For further details please contact Harriet at 087-9242438.

The Adult and Toddler group continue to meet in the Parish Centre at 10.30am, on Fri. mornings.

An Irish Conversation Class takes place each Friday morning at 10.30am in the Parish Centre. New members are welcome to attend this informal gathering. All levels of Irish are catered for.

There will be a Christmas Art & Craft Fair in the Parish Centre on November 29th. If you have some craft items that you wish to donate to this Fair please hand them into the Centre. Contact the Parish Office if you would like to have your own craft sales table at this our first Christmas Craft Fair.

Weekly Bulletin October 17th & 18th

Mission Sunday


We thank you for last weeks Offertory Collection which amounted to €1,327 and the Share Collection which amounted to €1282.

This weekend’s Share collection will be replaced by the annual Mission Sunday collection. This collection provides financial assistance to young churches and missionaries, allowing them to meet the spiritual and human needs of some of the world’s poorest nations.

A letter of thanks has been received from Our Lady’s Hospice Harold’s Cross for the donation of €757.70 which was raised through the Parish Centre’s Coffee morning.

We offer our condolences to the families of Helen Blathnaid Ni Chionna and Bridget Conlon. Their funeral Masses took place in our church during the last week.

It is proposed to host a Parish Christmas Craft Fair on November 29th. A meeting to arrange this event will take pace in the Parish Centre on Thursday October 22nd at 7.30pm. Please attend this meeting if you wish to become involved with the organisation of this project.

We thank you for last weeks Offertory Collection which amounted to €1,283 and the Share Collection which amounted to €828.

We also thank all who supported last weekend’s annual outdoor collection for the Parish Pastoral Centre. This collection amounted to €1,300.

We wish to thank Valerie Alexandra for the excellent tour of the National Gallery which she gave to parish group on Wednesday last. We look forward to another visit in the spring!

An outdoor collection for St. Michaels House will take place after all Masses this weekend. This organisation caters for people with an intellectual disability. Their headquarters are in Goatstown and they cater for 1,500 people in the greater Dublin area.

Sunday next, October 18th is Mission Sunday. The usual Share collection will be replaced by the annual Mission Sunday collection. Milltown Parish Active Retirement Association are hosting a free ‘Afternoon Tea’ in the Parish Centre at 2.30 pm, on this Monday afternoon, October 12th. All members are welcome to attend.

Also on this Monday at 8pm, the Milltown Parish Historical Group has arranged a lecture on ‘Cathal Brugha, Irish Revolutionary and Politician’. It will be presented by his grandson and namesake, Cathal Brugha, at 8pm. All are welcome to attend.

The next meeting of the Milltown Branch of the I. C. A. will take place in the Parish Centre at 8pm, on this Tuesday , October 13th. New members are welcome to attend.

•We welcome back the Chamber Choir who have recommenced singing at the Saturday evening 6pm Mass this weekend.

•The annual outdoor collection from the Parish Pastoral Centre will take place after all Masses this weekend. Your support will be very much appreciated.

•Copies of our ‘Invitation to Participate’ brochure are available at the back of the church. If you are considering joining one of our lay ministries groups please complete the form at the back of the brochure and return it to the Parish Office.

•The Milltown Parish Active Retirement Group will have their “Gentle activity to Music” session in the Parish Pastoral Centre this Tuesday, October 6th, at 10.30am. All members of the Active Retirement Group are encouraged to attend.

•After all masses next weekend there will be an outdoor collection for St. Michael’s House. This organisation caters for people with an intellectual disability. Their headquarters are in Goatstown and they cater for 1,500 people in the greater Dublin area.

•Parents in the Parish whose children are receiving Holy Communion next year are invited to attend a meeting concerning a Parish based First Holy Communion Programme. This meeting will take place this Monday evening, Oct. 5th at 8pm in the Parish Centre at 8pm.

• Are you 65+ years of age? Have you a small repair job which you would like to have done for you? The Care and Repair programme (run by Age Action Ireland) uses a pool of trustworthy volunteers and handypersons to carry out minor repairs for older people. All volunteers are vetted and carry official Care and Repair identification cards. The service is free; you only pay for the materials used (though donations are welcome). For your bigger jobs, we maintain a register of reliable and honest tradespersons. You can arrange to have a job done for you by phoning the Age Action Care and Repair number which is 1890 369 369.
