Saturday & Sunday, January 23rd & 24th, 2010 - Third Sunday in Ordinary Time


We thank you for last Sunday’s Offertory Collection of €1,355, and the Share Collection of €1211. We also wish to thank those who have donated Christmas Dues.

Information Evening on Unemployment
We invite those who have been, or perhaps think they may be affected by unemployment in the future, to come along to the Parish Pastoral Centre at 7.30 pm on Monday January 25th. On that evening we have invited representatives from F.A.S., Citizens Information, MABS, Southside Community Training Network, Southside Partnership Enterprise Section, County Enterprise Board, Local Employment Support, Volunteer Centre, and the Vocational Education Committee to participate in an information evening. We plan to have these representatives located at separate tables in our conference room where people can speak to them on an individual basis.

The Parish Library, which is located in the Parish Pastoral Centre, is now open from 10am to 1pm on weekday mornings and also on Sunday mornings. Other times available on request.

Spanish Classes will commence in the Parish Pastoral Centre on next Thursday evening January 28th .This course of 10 weeks costs €150. For further information please contact the Parish Office (2196740, 2680041).

A Parish Book Club has commenced. The members have agreed to meet at 10.30am in the Parish Centre at 10.30am on the 3rd Wednesday of each month. Their next meeting will take place on Wednesday February 17th. New members are welcome to attend.

Details of the Dublin Diocesan Young Adult Pilgrimage to Taize (July 11–18) are on the Church notice boards. Please contact the Parish Office if you are interesting in travelling with this group. The Parish is offering financial assistance to a parishioner who wishes to participate in this Diocesan Pilgrimage.

An afternoon workshop for young singers will take place in the Parish Pastoral Centre at 3pm on Saturday February 6th. This workshop is designed for 15-18 year old students who have an interest in music and singing. Orla Flanagan, Director of the Milltown Parish Chamber Choir will direct this workshop, which will culminate in a performance at the 6pm Mass with all participants and members of the Chamber Choir. Please contact the Parish Office If you are interested in attending this workshop.

Sr. Marie, staff and helpers of Donnybrook Day Centre wish to thank most sincerely the voluntary drivers who delivered meals on wheels to more than 150 people in their homes in the midst of frost and snow during the dreadful spell of artic weather. What a spirit of generosity! It was very much appreciated by all who received them.

Archbishop Diarmuid Martin will preside in a Mass of Healing and Anointing of the Sick in the Church of the Good Shepard, Churchtown at 3pm on Sunday, February 7th. All are welcome.

The Adult and Toddler group continue to meet in the Parish Pastoral Centre at 10.30am, on Fri. mornings.

A Callanetics Class (exercise based on ballet and yoga) continues on Thur. evening at 8pm in the Parish Centre. For further details please contact Harriet at 087-9242438.

An Irish Conversation Class takes place each Friday morning at 10.30am in the Parish Centre. New members are welcome to attend this informal gathering. All levels of Irish are catered for.

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament takes place in our Parish for one hour after the 10 am Mass on Monday, Tuesday and Saturday morning.

Please let one of the Priests, Sacristans or Parish Office know of any parishioners who may wish to receive Holy Communion in their home.

We thank you for last Sunday’s Offertory Collection of €1,090, and the Share Collection of €790. The Offertory Collection on Jan.6th was €315 and the Share Collection was €205.

We also wish to thank those who have donated Christmas dues.

We offer our condolences to the families of the late Owen Kenny, Nellie O’Donovan and Catherine Staunton whose funerals took place here during the last week.

The Parish Library (which is located in the Parish Pastoral Centre), will be officially opened after the 11.30am Mass on this Sunday January 17th.

Christian Unity Week commences on Sunday January 17th. To celebrate this church event, the Revd. Sonia Gyles, Fr. Bernard Kennedy and Fr. Gerard Deegan invite you to attend an Ecumenical Service here in Milltown Parish Church at 3pm on Sunday, 17th January. The theme of the service will be: ‘You will be my witness’ (Luke 24:48) and the preacher is Rev. Sonia Gyles. The service will be followed by refreshments in the Parish Pastoral Centre.

Peter Dunne, (a brother of the late Fr. Joe Dunne who produces the Radharc Films) has kindly agreed to show some of the Radharc Films in our Parish Pastoral Centre at 7.30pm on Monday 18th January. All are welcome to attend.

The Parish Prayer Group, which is guided by Fr. Alan Mowbray S.J., will reconvene in the Sacristy at 3pm on Monday, January 18th.

The Parish Pastoral Council will meet at 7.45pm on Tuesday next, January 19th.

The Milltown Parish Active Retirement Association has invited solicitor John Costello to the Parish Pastoral Centre at 2.30 pm on Tuesday 19th January to talk on ‘Fair Deal for Nursing Homes’ and on ‘Making a Will’. All are welcome to attend this meeting.

We wish to thank Milltown Residents Association for gritting the footpaths directly outside the entrances to our Church during the bad weather last weekend.

On Wednesday next, January 20th, a second attempt will be made to convene a Parish Book Club. This will take place in the Parish Centre at 10.30am. All welcome.

The Baptism of the Lord.


We thank you for last Sunday’s Offertory Collection of €1,160, and the Share Collection of €948. We also wish to thank those who have donated Christmas dues.

Today’s 11.30am Mass today is dedicated to children who were baptised here during the last year. Their families have received invitations to attend this community celebration.

Jessica O’Sullivan and Grace Connolly were recently baptised in our church. We welcome them into our Christian Community and congratulate their parents.

The next meeting of the Parish Pastoral Council has been changed and will take place at 7.45pm on Tuesday week, January 19th.
