Parish of Saints Columbanus and Gall - Weekly Bulletin - September 25th & 26th, 2010,
26th Sunday Ordinary Time


We thank you for last Sunday’s Offertory Collection of €1,022 and the Crosscare Collection which amounted to €3,113.

Pat Morgan, Chairman of our Finance Committee will speak on ‘Parish Finances’ at all Masses this weekend.

The beatification of 18 year old Chiara Luce Badano of the Focolare took place on Saturday 25th September. Our thoughts are with the members of the Focolare community who live in our parish, some of whom are in Rome this weekend to attend the beatification ceremony.

The Parish Prayer Group reconvenes in the Sacristy at 3pm on Monday October 4th. It is guided by Fr. Alan. All welcome to attend.

The Milltown Parish Fun Day will take place on Sunday next, October 3rd from 12 – 4pm. In order to prepare for this event the Parish Pastoral Centre will not open after the 10am Mass.

There will be a meeting for Ministers of the Eucharist at 8pm on Thursday Sept. 30th. Ministers of the Word will meet at 8pm on the following Thursday, October 7th. Both of these meeting will take place in the Parish Pastoral Centre.

The Christmas Craft Fair will take place on Sunday Nov. 28th. A meeting to organise this Christmas Fair will take place at 8pm on Thursday, October 14th. If you would like to be involved in this event please come along to the meeting on the 14th of October.

The Friday morning Irish Conversation Class has recommenced. All levels of Irish are catered for and new members are welcome to attend this informal gathering on Fridays at 10.30am.

The Milltown Guild of the I.C.A. will continue their ‘Thursday Craft Morning’ at 10am in the Parish Pastoral Centre. This gathering will provide an opportunity for craft workers to share their creative talents. The Crochet Group will also meet at this time.

Greg O’ Rourke’s 4 week Cookery Course will be recommencing in the Parish Pastoral Centre on Thursday October 7th. Further information on this course is available on the parish Notice Boards. Greg can be contacted at 086, 3346485 /4426145.

Weekly Bulletin 18th & 19th September

We thank you for last Sunday’s Offertory Collection of €1,293 and the Share Collection which amounted to €971.

The Annual Collection for Crosscare – the Social Care Agency of the Dublin Diocese will take place at all Masses this weekend. This collection will replace the normal Share Collection

We thank all who attended the Coffee Morning in the Parish Pastoral Centre on Thursday last. All proceeds from this event have been donated to Our Lady’s Hospice in Harold’s Cross.

Beatification of Chiara Luce Badano – a saint for young people. Eighteen year old Chiara Luce Badano of the Focolare, who died in 1990, will be beatified in Rome next Saturday, 25th September 2010. Our thoughts are with the members of the Focolare community who live in our parish, some of who will be traveling to Rome for the beatification ceremony. Further details of the television coverage of this event are on the Parish Notice Boards.

The Legion of Mary’s Annual Pilgrimage to Our Lady’s Shrine at Knock will take place next Sunday, 26th September. Bus will leave from Ryan’s, Windy Arbour at 7.40am. For further details see the notice on the church notice boards or contact Una at 01, 4902817.

The Milltown Parish Active Retirement Group have invited Valerie Mc. Coy to return to the Parish Pastoral Centre with her ‘Gentle Activity to Music’ exercise programme. This series of 6 classes will commence at 10.45am on Tuesday, September 21st and will continue on the 1st & 3rd Tuesday of each month. The 6 classes will cost €30.

French classes for children recommence on Wednesday Sept, 22nd. For further information please contact Clare at 087 2724793.

We thank you for last Sunday’s Offertory Collection of €1,323 and the Share Collection which amounted to €930.

The Annual Collection for Crosscare – the Social care Agency of the Dublin Diocese will be at all Masses next weekend, September 18th & 19th. It will replace the normal Share Collection

We welcome into our Christian community Eoin Glynn, Evelyn O’Rourke, Lorcan Daly, and Dylan Garvin whose baptisms took place last weekend. We also congratulate their parents.

We congratulate Pat and Margaret Treanor on their 50th Wedding Anniversary which was celebrated in our church on Wednesday last.

Congratulations to Cliona O’Connor and Graham Dent who were married in our church on Friday September 10th.

We offer our condolences to the Loughman family and friends on the death of their nephew Brian Howard Loughman. A memorial Mass took place in our parish church on Wednesday last.

There are still some copies of the Parish Autumn Programme in the sacristy awaiting distribution. We ask parishioners (who kindly helped to deliver this publication on previous occasions) to collect some of these newsletters and deliver them to homes in their neighbourhood over the next few days. Please contact the Parish Office if you have not received your copy of this parish publication.

The Milltown Parish Active Retirement Group will visit Mellifont Abbey and Carlingford on Wednesday September 15th. If you would like to go on this outing please give your name into the Parish Pastoral Centre before September 8th. The cost for this outing is €20. Please note that the bus will leave Milltown at 9.15am sharp on Wednesday morning.

The Milltown Parish Book Club will meet in the Parish pastoral centre at 10.30am on Wednesday Sept. 15th. New members are welcome to join this group.

We wish to remind parishioners that the Parish Pastoral Centre is open for Tea/Coffee every weekday and Sunday morning. Do drop in to meet some of your fellow parishioners.

The Parish requires additional Altar Servers. Please contact one of the priests if your child is interested in joining this ministry. Children must have received their First Holy communion before becoming an altar server.

Please contact the Parish Office if you know of any parishioner who is housebound and would like to receive Holy Communion in their home.


Details of a forthcoming ‘Residential Weekend for the Bereaved’ are on the Parish Notice Boards. Please contact the Parish Office if you would like to attend. This weekend explores the loss of our loved ones and the meaning of death from a Christian perspective through prayer, meditation, discussion, videos and sharing.

Fr. Philip Bradley will today commence his new appointment with us here in Milltown. To mark this occasion there will be a welcoming reception in the Parish Pastoral Centre for Fr. Philip after the 10am and 11.30 am Mass. All welcome to attend.

We offer our condolences to the family and friends of the late Marie Keating whose funeral Mass took place in our parish church during the week.
