There will be a Church Gate collection for the Simon Community after all Masses next weekend. For over 40 years, Dublin Simon Community has been funding its services with a number of local events, including their annual church gate collections. They have long relied upon the support they receive from the community in order to continue their work with the homeless.
Their aim is to address the underlying causes of homelessness and support people in moving from the chaos of sleeping rough back to regain their independence. For some service users, this support starts with a hot cup of soup, a friendly face and a safe place to spend the night.
While this emergency response is important, it is only part of the work which they do. With the support of community events, they are able to give people who are homeless the stability to start rebuilding their lives. Their ultimate goal is to help their service users develop the confidence to find a home of their own, get a job and re-integrate into the community.

The Diocesan committee charged with planning and preparing with Dublin parishes in the lead up to the Eucharistic Congress in June next year have published a leaflet containing information on the Volunteer Programme for the Congress. Parish Child Protection Policy Statement

We, the Parish of Saints Columbanus and Gall, Milltown, in the Dublin Diocese, value and encourage the participation of children and young people in all parish activities that enhance their spiritual, physical, emotional and social development. We recognise the dignity and rights of all children and are committed to ensuring their protection.
In keeping with this we will do all in our power to create a safe environment for children and young people in order to secure their protection and enable their full participation in the life of the Church.
We appreciate the generous service of the adults who facilitate such participation and respect their integrity.

In line with Diocesan Policy, our parish’s Child Protection Policy has been in place for the last number of years and is reviewed annually by the Parish Pastoral Council. The Diocese requires that ‘Child Protection and Safety’ is a permanent item on the agenda of Parish Council meetings. In order to comply with the following Diocesan directive we are currently in the process of having every parish volunteer Garda Vetted

“Irrespective of the degree of contact (with children), the Dioceses requires all who are employed, or who engage in volunteer ministry or works of service for the Christian community in Diocesan offices, Diocesan agencies or parishes to undergo garda Vetting as an expression of our common commitment to safeguarding children”, (Child safeguarding and Protection Policy and Procedures, March 2011).

If you have any concerns regarding the safety of children please contact one of the following:
