Weekly Bulletin 26th & 27th November 2011

The Parish is hoping to recruit 10 volunteers for the 50th International Eucharistic Congress which will take place in Dublin from the 10th to the 17th June 2012. Pleas leave your name and telephone number in the Sacristy or Parish Office if you are interesting in registering as a volunteer. Volunteers urgently needed for the Congress. Between two and three thousand volunteers will be needed during the week of the Congress and also to assist in preparations in the months leading up to the Congress. The Congress is now recruiting volunteers for a wide range of roles such as administration, data entry, stewards, marketing, transport, meet & greet multimedia, pastoral preparation and much more!
A training session for volunteers will take place in the R.D.S. on Monday 28th Nov. at 7.30pm., so a speedy response is required!
Volunteers must be aged over 18 on the 1st of January 2011. Groups of young people over 16 years accompanied by a guardian are also welcome to apply as volunteers. All Congress volunteers must also be resident on the island of Ireland.

Thank you for last Sunday’s Offertory Collection of €1,324 and the Share Collection which amounted to €1,036.

The Parish Church opens at 9.30am and close at Dusk or 6pm on weekdays

Dublin Children’s Pilgrimage to Lourdes.
There will be an outdoor collection after all Masses next weekend for the Dublin Children’s Pilgrimage to Lourdes. For the last 36 years the DDCP have brought a group of 45 children from the Dublin Diocese to Lourdes during Easter Week. These children are all ill and have special needs. All funds raised will go towards paying for the children who will travel to Lourdes.

Envelopes are available at the back of the Church for those who wish to have their departed family members and friends included on our Altar list of the dead.

The Parish Baptism Team will meet on next Tuesday night with parents whose children are to be baptised here next weekend.

The Feast of St. Columbanus was on Tuesday last, Nov. 22nd. The Parish is celebrating this Feast Day at this Sunday ‘s morning Masses. Children are invited to participate in a ‘colouring in’ session. Pictures and pencils will be provided!
A copy of the Radharc film on St. Columbanus & Gall is available on loan from the Parish Library.

First Friday
Next Friday, December 2nd is the First Friday of the month. The 10am Mass on the day will be offered for all who are recently deceased and those whose names are on the Parish Altar list of the Dead

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament
Parishioners who attend the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in our church are invited to consider taking responsibility for the removal of the Monstrance at the end of the exposition. Please contact Fr. Philip if you are prepared to undertake this ministry.

Our Annual Christmas Craft & Home Produce Fair will take place today between 10am. & 2pm. Homemade cakes, sweets, biscuits, scones, preserves, tray bakes etc. are for sale today. Some parishioners have donated some good quality jewellery, pictures and ornaments. There will also be a raffle. Please drop in and support this parish fund raising activity.

Parish Pastoral Council
The next meeting of the Parish Pastoral Council will take place at 8pm on Thursday next, Dec. 1stth

The Milltown Branch of the I.C.A. will have their December meeting next Thursday evening, December 1st at 7.30pm

The Parish Liturgy Group will meet at 8pm on next Tuesday, November 29th.

Milltown Parish Active Retirement Group
The Parish Active Retirement Group will have their Annual Christmas Dinner at 8pm on Saturday, December 3rd. This event will take place in Milltown Golf Club Bookings can be made in the Parish Pastoral Centre.

The Parish Adult & Toddler Group meets in the Parish Pastoral Centre at 10am on Friday morning.

A Little Lifetime Foundation: will have their Christmas Service of Remembrance in St. Nicholas of Myra Church in Francis St. at 7.30pm on Dec. 4th. Archbishop Diarmuid Martin will attend. Each year the church is full to capacity with families who come to remember their deceased children in a unique and meanifull way at Christmas time. Mary Black is a special guest at this year’s ceremony.

Parish Advent Programme.
Sr. Celine Mangan O.P. will present a series of 3 talks in our Parish Advent Programme. These talks will commence at 8pm on next Monday evening, Nov. 28th, and will continue on Monday Dec. 5th & Dec. 11th. The title of the course is: The Bible and Ecology. This will be a dialogue with the Scriptures to see what they might say to us about present-day ecological concerns.

Sandford Parish’s Christmas Bazaar
Sandford Parish’s Christmas Bazaar will take place in Sandford Parish National School on Saturday 3rd Dec. from 11.00 a.m. – 2.00 p.m.

Being Confident of our Place in the World is the theme of the DAY FOR YOURSELF in Orlagh,on Saturday , December 10th. There is great peace of mind when you are comfortable in your own skin, content to be yourself without exaggerating your gifts or denying your limitations. Thank you for last Sunday’s Offertory Collection of €1,264 and the C.Y.C. Collection which amounted to €2,478.

A special welcome to children and their families to today’s 10am Mass. This liturgy has been arranged with younger parishioners in mind.

Focus Ireland has postponed the outdoor collection which was due to take place this weekend..

Envelopes are available at the back of the Church for those who wish to have their departed family members and friends included on our Altar list of the dead.

Peter McVerry Trust thank parishioners for their generous donations to the Trust’s outdoor collection which was recently held at our church. The collection raised €2,502.17.

The Feast of St. Columbanus is on Tuesday next, Nov. 22nd. The Parish will celebrate this feast next weekend. At next weekend’s Masses children will be invited to participate in a ‘colouring in’ session. Pictures and pencils will be provided!

CLONSKEAGH RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION
A talk by Genealogist Marie Mac Congall on ‘Tracing Your Family Tree ‘will be held in Milltown Parish Pastoral Centre at 7.30pm on Monday Nov. 21st. All welcome

The parish church will now open at 9.30am and close at Dusk or 6pm on weekdays

This year’s Christmas Craft & Home Produce Fair will take place between 10am. & 2pm, on next Sunday, Nov. 27th. Parishioners are invited to bring homemade cakes, sweets, biscuits, scones, preserves, tray bakes etc. to the Fair. Cakes and other home made produce may be left in the Parish Pastoral Centre before and after the 6pm Saturday Mass as well as on the day of the Fair.
Some parishioners have already donated some good quality jewellery, pictures and ornaments. If you have some such items which you no longer require, the Treasures Stall will gladly accept them!

Members of both the Parish Pastoral Council and the Parish Finance Committee are reminded to contact the Parish Office as soon as possible if they are planning to attend the Diocesan Finance Secretariat meeting in Bray on next Thursday Nov. 24th.

A Foroige Volunteer Training session will take place at 7pm on Monday evening. A Youth Club information and registration night will commence at 7pm on Friday evening. Both meeting will be held in the Parish Pastoral Centre.

Accord is an Irish voluntary Catholic organisation that aims to promote a deeper understanding of Christian marriage and to offer people the means to safeguard and nourish their marriage and family relationships. Accord in Harcourt St. needs the help of a voluntary receptionist who would be available to work in the evening times. Please contact Fr. Philip If you are interested in helping with this request.

Milltown Parish Active Retirement Group
This group have organised an outing to Kildare Village on next Wed. Nov. 23rd. For further details please see the Parish Notice Boards.

A special Remembrance Mass for families and friends who have been affected by suicide will be held at the parish church in Kildare Town on 23rd November 2011 at 7.30pm. If you would like to have a loved one who has died this year or any other year remembered at this mass, please contact the parish centre in Kildare with your loved one's name. This special Mass is organised by HOPE(D) Helping Other People Endure Depression.

A Memorial Mass, for the repose of the souls of Milltown parishioners who died during the past year, will take place at 7.30pm on Monday evening November 14th. Invitations to attend this liturgy have been posted to each family who have been bereaved during the last 12 months.

Breda O’ Brien, journalist and educationalist, will give a workshop on “Challenge for parents: Passing on the faith to our children”. O Sacrament Most Holy: The new CD of the Palestrina Choir – O Sacrament Most Holy – with choral music on the theme of the Eucharist is now available from the Pro-Cathedral and from Veritas. There are also reflections on the Eucharist in addition to the wide range of music to help us prepare for the Eucharistic Congress next year.

PARC Road Safety Group is holding an inter-denominational ceremony for World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims in St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Laurel Lodge, Castleknock, Dublin 15 commencing at 2pm on Sunday the 20th November. Dublin County Choir will perform in St. John the Evangelist Church, Ballinteer on Saturday 12th November at 8pm. Part 1 - Operatic Favorites - Part II Britten: St. Nicolas (a dramatic and moving musical portrait of the Saint who was the inspiration for Santa Claus. Conductor: Colin Block, including Jacek Wislocki (Tenor), Kilternan Church of Ireland Junior Choir, Echo Voices and lots more. Weekly Bulletin 5th & 6th November 2011

Volunteers are required for the 50th International Congress which will take place in Dublin from the 10th to the 17th June 2012. It is expected that 25,000 pilgrims from Ireland and overseas will take participate each day. Volunteers have an integral role to play in the success of this IEC2012. Between two and three thousand volunteers are required to assist in organising this event.

Volunteers are invited from all walks of life across the island of Ireland. Volunteers will have an opportunity to show what Ireland is all about: excellence, passion, friendship, faith and positivity. Volunteering at this unique occasion will enable you to build new friendships, develop new skills, deepen your spirituality and play an integral role at the heart of one of the largest events to be staged in Ireland in 2012.

Training sessions will be held prior to the Congress. Volunteers are required for a variety of roles which include the following: administration, hospitality, transport, meet & greet data entry, language assistance (spoken & written), manual labour, marketing, music, pastoral preparation, photography and much more. Volunteers must be aged over 18 on the 1st of January 2011. Groups of young people over 16 years accompanied by a guardian are also welcome to apply as volunteers. All Congress volunteers must also be resident on the island of Ireland.

An outdoor collection for the Peter McVerry Trust takes place after all Masses this weekend. This Dublin charity supports some of the most disadvantaged young people in our society. It is committed to reducing the impact of homelessness, drug misuse and social disadvantage through housing and drug rehabilitation which helps people to move towards independent living. Please be as generous as you can.

Fundraising concert:
The Order of the Knights of St Columbanus is holding a fundraising concert on Friday 18th November in the RDS, in aid of their Christmas Day dinner for the Homeless. The concert will feature Liam Lawton and special guests. Doors open at 7.30pm. Tickets are €20 and are available from Ticket master

Softlight Photography DSLR Beginners Photography course.
A photography training course will take place in the Parish Pastoral Centre from 10-12 on Saturday November 12th. This two hour course teaches you the basic principals of SLR photography. You will learn how to adjust your aperture for portraits and landscapes, how to use your shutter speed to photograph night time and also movement. We will also cover ISO to maintain the optimum light in your photographs. This is a hands on course with lots of practical experience. The course costs €45 per person. Day For Yourself: The monthly ‘Day for yourself’ in Orlagh Retreat Centre will be held on Saturday 12th November from 10am- 4.30pm. The theme is “Enriching our lives and the lives of others” and will explore the potential and opportunities we have to develop our own gifts and in doing so make a difference to those around us. The day will be led by Dr. Bernadette Toal and Fr. John Byrne. There will be an opportunity for Mass at 4.30pm. Cost €50 including a full lunch.

Scripture Day: Sean Goan will conduct his annual introduction to the gospel of the following year under the heading The Eucharistic Community in the Gospel of Mark on Sunday 13th November from 10am -5pm. Mass will be included in the day. Cost €55.

Ireland’s first Alzheimer Café is coming to Donnybrook. A monthly café-style meeting for people with Alzheimer’s and other dementias, their families and friends, and health and social care professionals, the Alzheimer Café involves support and education. The theme of this year’s Mission Sunday is ‘Together in Faith’. The universal mission involves everyone, everything and always. The Gospel is not an exclusive possession of those who have received it, but it is a gift to be shared, good news to be passed on to others. The 1,762 Irish missionaries working in 84 countries have been supported by the prayers, sacrifices and material help of countless people over the years. With this in mind we ask parishioners to be as generous as possible to the collection for Mission Sunday which will replace the Share Collection at all Masses this weekend.

Volunteers are required for the 50th International Congress which will take place in Dublin from the 10th to the 17th June 2012. Further details of the Congress are displayed on the green Notice Board which is located inside the church.

A photography training course will take place in the Parish Pastoral Centre from 10-12 on Saturday November 12th. This two hour course teaches you the basic principals of SLR photography. You will learn how to adjust your aperture for portraits and landscapes, how to use your shutter speed to photograph night time and also movement. We will also cover ISO to maintain the optimum light in your photographs. This is a hands on course with lots of practical experience. The course costs €45 per person. Repair Programme: Are you 60+ years of age? Have you a small repair job which you would like to have done for you? The Care and Repair programme (run by Age Action Ireland) uses a pool of trustworthy volunteers and handypersons to carry out minor repairs for older people. All volunteers are vetted and carry official Care and Repair identification cards. The service is free; you only pay for the materials used. For your bigger jobs, we maintain a register of reliable and honest tradespersons. We are also accepting requests for small gardening jobs.
