Weekly Bulletin 21th & 22th May 2011

Thank you for last Sunday’s Offertory Collection of €1,185 and the Share Collection which amounted to €853.

Welcome to the Cor Na Nog choir who are singing at today’s 11.30am Mass.

Today’s Share collection will be replaced by a collection to support the Dublin diocesan students who are preparing for Ordination to the priesthood.

Claire Hutchison from Foroige, (who addressed the congregation at Masses last weekend) will facilitate an open meeting in the Parish Pastoral Centre at 7.30pm on this Tuesday, May 24th. The purpose of this meeting is to asses the needs of teenagers within this parish.
Foroige is the National Youth Development Organisation which is a voluntary organisation that engages members of the community in youth development and education. Foróige believes that each person is unique and creative and can contribute to improving the world in which they live. It enables young people to involve themselves consciously and actively in their own development and in the development of society.

Condolences to the families and friends of the late Liam Donlon and Betty Harding. Their Funeral Masses took place here during the past week.

Congratulations to the twenty girls from the Junior School in Alexander College were confirmed by Rev. Ciaran O’ Carroll at 11am on Friday morning.

Communion arrangements for coeliac sufferers: If you would like to receive from the chalice you should call into the sacristy before Mass. A chalice will be placed on a table at the side of the altar. You may process to the altar with the congregation to receive Holy Communion.

Mass for those sitting exams: The 11.30am Mass on next Sunday morning, May 29th, will be offered for students who are doing exams this June.

COMMUNION IN THE HOME
We invite parishioners to inform the priests if any members of their families or neighbours who may be housebound and would wish the Eucharist to be taken to them periodically.

In response to the interest and concerns of their parishioners, the Rathgar Parish Pastoral Council is holding an information / discussion event on the New Missal on Thursday May 31st. Fr. Damien McNiece and Fr. Padraig Mc Carthy have agreed to be present at this meeting. Time and venue of this event are still to be confirmed and will be included in next week’s bulletin.

The Parish Pastoral Centre is open for Tea/Coffee every weekday and Sunday morning. Do drop in to meet some of your fellow parishioners.

The Parish Bethany Bereavement Support Group has invited Maeve Douglas who is a psychotherapist and Bereavement Counsellor, to speak in the Parish Pastoral Centre on this Monday May 23rd at 8pm. All are welcome to attend.

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is seeking your help in its Annual Clothing Appeal in this parish. The appeal is for clean, good quality clothes, bedclothes, curtains, shoes etc. This weekend there are bags available for collection at the back of the church. The Society will collect bags from outside of the church on next Sunday morning. The Society is very conscious of the tremendous support given by the Milltown Parishioners for their charitable works over the years. They would like to thank you all most sincerely on behalf of all those you have helped.

The walking Club from the Milltown Parish Active Retirement Group will meet after Mass on Tuesday morning for a 30min. walk along the Dodder. All are welcome to join this outing!

Aware’s first ever Volunteer Open Day takes place on Wednesday 1st June next, between 1-7pm at No. 5 South Leinster Street, Dublin 2 (part of the National Gallery, entrance to the right of the Clare St gallery entrance).Anyone who is interested in giving their time to help Aware with its work is encouraged to attend. Aware have a huge variety of opportunities for volunteers and anyone who would like to donate some of their time or skills to a very important cause can be facilitated.

Dublin International Eucharistic Congress Preparations and Resources: The Diocesan committee charged with planning and preparing with Dublin parishes in the lead up to the Eucharistic Congress in June next year have published a number of resources and confirmed a number of events for the coming weeks. The Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi) will be celebrated on Sunday 26 June 2011. Every parish in the Archdiocese of Dublin will mark this day in communion with parishes throughout the island of Ireland as another highpoint on the journey to the 50th International Eucharistic Congress 2012.

You are invited to take part in a Triduum of Prayer on 23/24 and 25 June leading up to the celebration of Corpus Christi 2011. On the Vigil of the feast of John the Baptist on 24th June, Dublin’s three Cathedral Choirs, the Palestrina and choirs of St. Patrick’s and Christchurch will join together in an ecumenical vespers service in St. Mary’s Pro Cathedral at 7pm. Marriage Enrichment Day: Offered to any married couple who would like to deepen their love for one another and refresh their marriage. A Photographic Exhibition in aid of the Carers Association was opened in the Parish Pastoral Centre on Friday evening. Photographs taken by Maureen Mc. Donnell, who is a member of the Royal Photographic Society, will be on display throughout the weekend. The Carer’s Association represents a large number of carers who give voluntary care to their loved ones who are elderly and frail, seriously ill people, those with disabilities, and children with special needs. Do drop into the centre during next weekend to view these wonderful photographs. Framed copies of the Artists work will be available for sale at the exhibition.

Milltown Parish Pastoral Council
The following items were discussed at the Parish Pastoral Council meeting which was held last Tuesday.
Eucharistic Congress: information on this Congress will soon be placed on display in the church.
New Missal: an invitation to attend the forthcoming information/discussion evening in Rathgar Parish was received .
Parish Social Justice Group: the reforming of this Parish group was considered. Parishioners, both young and old, are invited to join this ministry.
Open Day: the committee who organised this event last year will schedule a meeting to commence preparations for a Parish Open Day this September.

Rainelle Dadivas, Ben O’Connor & Siona Fuller were baptised here on Saturday morning. We welcome them into our Christian community and congratulate their parents.

The Radharc Films series continues in the Parish Pastoral Centre for the next two weeks. The screenings take place at 8pm on Thursday evenings Next Thursday’s film are: Fergal of Salzburg, Adams Daughters and Tonga, the Friendly Isles. All invited to attend.

An outdoor collection for the Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind Association is taking place after all Masses this weekend. Your support will be very much appreciated.

The Cor na Nog choir will sing during the 11.30 am Mass on Sunday May 22nd.

This Sunday’s 10am Mass is part of the ‘Do this in Memory of Me’ programme for children who will be receiving their First Holy Communion in Milltown Parish Church on next Saturday, May 14th.

The proceeds of the collection at Mass on Holy Thursday will be donated to Japan.

Please return your filled Trocaire boxes to the Sacristy. Your contributions will be forwarded to Trocaire who will help families in Honduras who are defenceless against powerful landowners. These families live their lives subjected to threats, intimidation and violence, simply because they are poor and voiceless.

On this Tuesday evening, May 3rd, the Parish Baptism Team will meet with parents of children who are to be baptised in our church during the month of May.

A 3 night series of Radharc Films will commence in the Parish Pastoral Centre on Thursday May 5th and will continue on Thursday May 12th & May 19th. All invited to attend.

This Friday, May 6th is the First Friday of the month. The 10am Mass on the day will be offered for all who are recently deceased and those whose names are on the Parish Altar list of the Dead

TROCAIRE

In Honduras families are defenceless against powerful landowners as well as complex and corrupt political and judicial systems. Families live their lives subjected to threats, intimidation and violence, simply because they are poor and voiceless. They need support to protect themselves, to stand up for their rights and make a better life for the future. This Lent your support will help countless invisible communities who are living in fear and in danger simply because they are living in poverty. Trocaire boxes are available for collection at the church doors.

Nullamore Youth Club ( Opus Dei) : A Junior Certificate Easter Revision Workshops aiming to help 3rd Year schoolboys achieve high marks in the Junior Certificate exams will be held in Nullamore Study Centre on 26th to 28th April. The programme will consist of subject-specific workshops and periods of supervised study. Also a Woodwork camp for 3rd to 6th class schoolboys will be held on 26th and 27th April. Make and sail a model boat, build a model lorry and castle.
