Weekly Bulletin 18th & 19th June 2011

Thank you for last Sunday’s Offertory Collection of €1,128 and the Share Collection which amounted to €968.

Condolences to the family and friends of the late Ann Armstrong. Her Funeral Mass took place in Carrick on Shannon during the past week.

The collection for the 50th International Eucharistic Congress takes place at all Masses next weekend . All large celebrations require a great deal of materials and preparation. This Congress is an event expected to be attended by 100,000. Your donation to this fund will help transform the RDS and Croke Park where the main events of the Congress will take place. It will also finance the printing of posters and welcome signs for pilgrims which will be posted all around the city. Further details on the Congress can be found on www.iec2012.ie .

Thank you to the parents who attended last Friday’s meeting which discussed the Bar B Q which was suggested for June 25th. Due to the short length of time available to plan this event, this group of volunteers decided to postpone planning a parish youth event until a later date. With this in mind additional information from Foroige will be included in the Parish Open Day which is to take place on September 25th. Additional parents will be required to help get an autumn parish youth initiative underway.

Communion arrangements for coeliac sufferers: If you would like to receive from the chalice you should call into the sacristy before Mass. A chalice will be placed on a table at the side of the altar. You may process to the altar with the congregation to receive Holy Communion. You may also bring a low gluten host into the sacristy before Mass.

We remember in our prayers all students who are sitting state exams during these few weeks.

There will be an outdoor collection this weekend for Vita which is an Irish charity working in Africa to fight hunger, poverty and the effects of climate change. For further details on this organisation visit

The annual Diocesan Eucharistic Procession will take place in the grounds of Clonliffe College on Thursday 23rd June at 7.30pm. Bishop Eamonn Field, Chairperson of the Dublin Diocesan Eucharistic Congress preparatory committee will lead the procession. First communicants are very welcome and parish groups are invited to attend with their banners.

Annabella Greer was baptised at the 11.30am Mass on Sunday last. We welcome her into our Christian community and congratulate her parents.

The Milltown Parish Active Retirement Group has invited Sheena from Milltown Pharmacy to give a talk on “Know Your Medicines”. This presentation will commence at 2pm on Tuesday next, June 21st. It will be followed by an information session from Ramon Massey which will address the cost of funerals. All welcome to attend.

The Carer’s Association thanks Milltown Parish for its donation of €665 which was raised at Maureen Mc. Donald’s recent Art exhibition in the Parish Pastoral Centre.

NATIONAL EUCHARIST CONGRESS 2011

Milltown and Clonskeagh Parish’s have jointly arranged a Triduum of Prayer which will take place from Thursday June 23rd, to Sunday June 26th. This Triduum will be followed by a Eucharistic Procession on Sunday June 26th .Details of this Triduum and Eucharistic Procession are available in a handout at the back of the church.

Knock, Saturday June 25th

Parishioners from the parishes of Milltown and Clonskeagh are invited to travel together to this National Eucharistic Congress. A schedule for the day is also included in the handout at the back of the church. There are 25 seats on the coach reserved for Milltown parishioners. If you wish to travel with this group please leave your name and €40 into the Sacristy or the Parish Office. Places will be allocated on a first come first serve basis.

Procession – Sun. June 26th

On next Sunday morning, Mass in Milltown Church will be celebrated at 10am & 11am. The 11am mass will replace our usual 11.30am Mass. Following the 11am Mass, parishioners are invited to join in a Procession. Parishioners from Clonskeagh will process from Bird Ave. church to Mount St. Mary’s, parishioners from Milltown will walk from our church (directly after the 11am Mass) and meet up with the Clonskeagh parishioners at Mount St. Mary’s. Clonskeagh Parish will process with the Blessed Sacrament in a Monstrance; simultaneously Milltown Parish will carry a Lectionary (recognising the presence of God in the Word). The joint procession will conclude with Benediction.
Weather permitting we will continue our celebrations by having a light picnic where parishioners from Milltown and Clonskeagh will break bread together.
We particularly welcome to our procession those who have received their First Holy communion or who have been confirmed during this year.

Milltown Parish Pastoral Council

The following items were discussed at the Parish Pastoral Council meeting which was held last Tuesday.
Eucharistic Congress: Details of this Congress were discussed.
New Missal: a report was received from those who attended the talk in Rathgar parish on the Introduction of the New Missal.
Membership of the Parish Pastoral Council; the need for new members of the Council was discussed..
Parish Open Day: This event will take place on September 25th.
Parish 5 year Plan: the need to formulate a 5 year plan for the parish was discussed.
Review of Parish Liturgy: A Review of recent parish Liturgies took place.
The next meeting of the Parish Pastoral Council will take place on Tuesday September 13th.

Age Action Care & Repair Programme: Are you 60+ years of age? Have you a small repair job which you would like to have done for you? The Care and Repair programme (run by Age Action Ireland) uses a pool of trustworthy volunteers and handypersons to carry out minor repairs for older people. All volunteers are vetted and carry official Care and Repair identification cards. The service is free; you only pay for the materials used. For your bigger jobs, we maintain a register of reliable and honest tradespersons. We are also accepting requests for small gardening jobs. You can arrange to have a job done for you by phoning the Age Action Care and Repair number which is 1890 369 369 or 01-4756989.

The Annual Bohernabreena Cemetery Mass takes place at 3pm on June 19th.

The Sunshine Fund of the Society of St. Vincent De Paul greatly appreciates the support and assistance received from Milltown parishioners with this year’s Advocate collection. The congregation of the parish contributed €1995.18.

Corpus Christi Procession – Sun. June 26th
Mass will be celebrated in Milltown Church on Sunday morning June 26th at 10am and 11.00am. Following the 11am Mass, parishioners are invited to join in a Corpus Christi Procession. This procession will walk to Our Lady’s Grotto in the Marist Fathers grounds in Mount St. Mary’s on the Dundrum Road. Parishioners from Clonskeagh Parish will meet up with this group who will be processing from Bird Ave. Church after their 11am Mass. Children who have received their First Holy Communion this year are particularly welcome to join in this Eucharistic Procession .Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament will take place at Our Lady’s Grotto.
You are invited to continue the ceremony by bringing and sharing a light picnic (weather permitting) in Mount St. Mary’s.

The Diocesan committee charged with planning and preparing with Dublin parishes in the lead up to the Eucharistic Congress in June next year have published are leaflet containing information on the Volunteer Programme for the congress. Copies of this publication are available for collection at the back of the church.

The Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi) will be celebrated on Sunday 26 June 2011. Every parish in the Archdiocese of Dublin will mark this day in communion with parishes throughout the island of Ireland as another highpoint on the journey to the 50th International Eucharistic Congress 2012.

Midsummer Barbeque for 10 – 14 year olds!
Parents are reminded of the Barbeque planning meeting which is due to take place at 7.30pm in the Parish Pastoral Centre on Friday next June 10th If this event for the young people of the parish is to take place additional volunteers are required to help with the organising of it.

An outdoor collection for the Hospice will take place after all masses next weekend.

A Blessing of Remembrance will take place today at 3pm in the Angels Memory Garden at Glasnevin Cemetery. Each year hundreds of parents and family members, both recently and long ago bereaved, come together for a Blessing Service at the Old Angels memory garden. All are Welcome.

The Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind wish to thank the parishioners of Milltown for the €717.53 which they donated to the outdoor collection which was held here two weeks ago.
