Weekly Bulletin 20th & 21st March

Parish of Saints Columbanus and Gall - Weekly Bulletin
Saturday & Sunday, March 20th & 21st, 2010 – Fifth Sunday in Lent.


We thank you for last Sunday’s Offertory Collection of €1,430 and the Share Collection which amounted to €1,017.

We invite parishioners to take home a copy of the ‘Parish Grouping’ questionnaire which is available at the back of the church. Copies of the ‘Report of the Diocesan Boundaries Commission’ are available in the Parish Office and Sacristy. Please return your completed form to the parish by next weekend.

At the fifth talk in our Lenten Programme, Fr. Martin Hogan will speak about ‘St. Luke on the Passion’. This presentation will take place on next Monday evening at 8pm in the Parish Pastoral Centre. The final talk in this series will be on Monday, March 29th when Sr. Anne Francis Carroll will facilitate a ‘Reflection on Holy Week’.

This weekend students from Wesley College will have an outdoor collection in aid of the ‘Habitat for Humanity Project’. This project has already built over 300,000 homes in third world countries. These students will be travelling in June to Romania to work on a building project.

We remind Readers of the Word to collect their Readers Guide from the Sacristy.

Crosscare, the social care agency in the archdioceses, wishes to thank parishioners for their most generous contribution to their annual collection which amounted to €3,189.

During Lent there is an Evening Mass in our church at 6pm on Mon., Tues. & Wed. evenings.

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament takes place in our Parish Church for one hour after the 10 am Mass on Monday, Tuesday, Friday (during Lent) and Saturday morning.

We urgently require Ministers of the Eucharist and Ministers of the Word. Please call into the sacristy after Mass if you are interested in becoming involved in either of these ministries.

We wish to remind parishioners that the Parish Pastoral Centre is open for Tea/Coffee every weekday and Sunday morning. Do drop in to meet some of your fellow parishioners.

We wish to remind members of the Parish Pastoral Council that the next Council meeting will take place at 8pm on Tuesday next, March 23rd.

The Parish Liturgy Group will meet at 8pm on next Wednesday evening, March 24th.

Details of the Dublin Diocesan Young Adult Pilgrimage to Taize (July 11–18) are on the Church notice boards. Please contact the Parish Office if you are interesting in travelling with this group. The Parish is offering financial assistance to a parishioner who wishes to participate in this Diocesan Pilgrimage.

The Parish Library, which is located in the Parish Pastoral Centre, is now open from 10am to 1pm on weekday mornings and also on Sunday mornings. Other times available on request.

An Evening of Choral, Orchestral & Ensemble Music will take place in the Parish Church on Wednesday next at 8pm. This evening is presented by Alexandra College and Sandford Park School. Tickets €10 & €5 available at the door on the evening of the performance.

In next Sunday’s Gospel we are presented with ‘The Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke’ (22:14-23:56). Perhaps you might like to read this before next Sunday’s Mass. This extract is on pages 58- 64 of ‘The Gospel of Luke, Celebrating the Year of Evangelisation’.

The Adult and Toddler group continue to meet in the Parish Pastoral Centre at 10.30am, on Fri. mornings.

An Irish Conversation Class takes place each Friday morning at 10.30am in the Parish Centre. New members are welcome to attend this informal gathering. All levels of Irish are catered for.

Saturday & Sunday, March 13th & 14th, 2010 – Fourth Sunday in Lent.

• We thank you for last Sunday’s Offertory Collection of €1,274 and the Share Collection which amounted to €1,888.

At the fourth talk in our Lenten Programme, Maureen Ryan, Administrator of ‘Friends of the National Gallery’ will present a talk and slide show on ‘The Passion in Art’. This presentation will take place on Monday evening at 8pm in the Parish Pastoral Centre. The series will continue on the following 2 Monday evenings. Further details of this programme are on the Parish notice boards.

• The Vigil Mass for St. Patrick’s Day will be at 6pm on next Tuesday, March 16th. Mass will also be celebrated at 10am & 11.30am.There will be no evening Mass on St. Patrick’s Day.

• Callum Gilmartin, Matthew Mc.Kenna, Lara Cavey, Sophie Comerford and Patrick Jones were recently baptised in our church. We welcome them into our Christian Community and congratulate their parents.

• We offer our condolences to the family and friends of the late Betty Corr whose funeral Mass took place in the Parish Church on Friday. May she rest in peace.

Saturday & Sunday, March 6th & 7th, 2010 – Third Sunday in Lent.


• We thank you for last Sunday’s Offertory Collection of €1,396 and the Share Collection which amounted to €1,014.

• 5th Year Students from Gonzaga College will be having an outdoor collection after all Masses this weekend. This collection is being donated to a housing project in Zambia in which these students will participate. These students will address the congregation at all masses this weekend.

At the third talk in our Lenten Programme, Peter Dunn will present 2 short Radharc films and 2 talks dealing with Social Justice Issues. This talk
will take place on Monday evening at 8pm in the Parish Pastoral Centre.
The series will continue on the following 3 Monday evenings. Further details
of this programme are on the Parish notice boards.

• During Lent there will be an evening Mass in our church at 6pm on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evening.

• An ‘Hour of Prayer and Reflection’ will continue at 8pm in the Parish Pastoral Centre on Thursday evenings during Lent. The theme of these evenings is the Return of the Prodigal Son.

• The Novena of Grace will continue each day until March 12th at the 10am Mass in the parish church. Names of the priests who have been invited to preach at these Masses are listed on the notices in the Church porches.

Breda O’Brien, Irish Times Journalist, will speak on ‘Media and the Church’ in the second talk in our Lenten Programme. This talk will take place on Monday evening at 8pm in the Parish Pastoral Centre. The series will continue on the following 4 Monday evenings.
