Fourth Sunday of Ordinary Time, February 2nd & 3rd, 2008


Michael Barry, who is a member of the Finance Committee will address the congregation on the financial situation of the Parish at all Masses this weekend.

Lenten Talks. As in other years the Parish has arranged for a series of talks to be given by a number of distinguished visitors with special competence on issues of civic and religious importance. A finalised roster of speakers and topics will be announced next weekend. Meanwhile we ask you to keep Monday nights free during Lent so that you can attend what promises to be an unusually worthwhile programme in preparation for Easter. Please make an effort to support these Parish presentations.

Due to the redecoration of the interior of the Church the 10am mass weekday Mass will continue to be held in the Parish Centre.

Wednesday next, February 6th, is Ash Wednesday, which is a day of fast and abstinence. Ashes will be distributed after the 10am Mass. There are Trocaire boxes available at the back of the church. Please take one on your way out.

Our weekly Parent and Child Coffee Mornings continues to take place on Friday mornings in the Parish Centre at 10.30 am. All welcome to attend.

Next Saturday morning the 10am mass will be offered for the repose of the soul of the late Brian Mc. Elhatton, who died recently in America. The Deaf Choir will be participating in this mass. We offer our condolences to the Mc Elhatton family in Ramleh Park.

The 16th World Day of the Sick will be celebrated in the Dublin Diocese on Saturday and Sunday next, February 8th & 9th. Archbishop Martin will celebrate mass with the Anointing of the Sick in the Church of the Holy Spirit, Kimmage Manor, Dublin 6w. Please contact the parish Office if you would like to be brought to this Mass.

The Social Justice Group welcomes new members. The group was set up to develop a sense of awareness that justice is central to the Gospel and will focus on both local and international social justice. Please contact the Parish centre for further information.

It is proposed to start a roster of collectors at weekend masses. This will help expedite the two collections that are taken up during Mass. Please leave your name in the sacristy if you would be willing to be part of this group.

On Monday, February 4th at 2pm in the Parish Centre the Milltown parish Active Retirement Association have invited Mary Keogh, a dietician from the Health Promotion Unit of the Dept. of Health, to give a talk on “Let Food be Your Medicine”. All welcome to attend.

Also at 8pm on Monday, February 4th the Milltown Parish Local History Society has invited Dr. Christopher Moriarty to talk on “Down the Dodder”.

We wish to thank you for last weekend’s Offertory Collection which amounted to €1,268 and the annual Accord Collection which amounted to €2,485We thank those of you who have sent in your Christmas Offerings. We are grateful for your thoughtfulness and generosity. Acknowledgements will be sent out in due course.
