Weekly Bulletin 12th & 13th February 2011

We hope to learn some new hymns starting with the 11.30 Mass, during the next few weeks. Here’s the plan: Paula Jennings (our cantor at the 11.30 Sunday Mass) along with Andrew Synott (our Sunday organist) will come along at about 11.15 and go through the new hymn. We hope to have the words of the hymns in the Bulletin each week. We’ll start with just one or two new hymns and see how we get on. We won’t be singing the new hymn at the 11.30 Mass immediately. Only when we’ve got a reasonable knowledge of the hymn will it be put into our bank of hymns.
We hope to continue this for a few weeks and have a look at the progress. It’s a trial, there’s nothing carved in stone. So do come along a little early if you can and give the new hymns a go. We hope to put the words on the parish web site too, (so there’ll be no excuse!).
People have been giving me all sorts of suggestions about the singing in the Church. To be honest I think we are doing quite well. The 10.00 mass group urgently needs new members, 11.30 has more members – all newcomers welcome to both. The Chamber Choir is back in full swing, we even have the offer of the Lassa Scholars coming to sing some Sunday soon! The congregational singing is good on Sundays and during the week too. Keep up the good work. The Diocesan Liturgy Office had their Spring Workshop on Sat 5th; there were several workshops, ‘Music for the new Missal’, ‘Lent and Justice’ etc. About 450 people were there from across the Diocese. It was a great event; about 10 of us went from Milltown.

These workshops are put on in Spring and Autumn. We let you know the autumn date as soon as we get it from HQ.
I’ve been looking at the sound system. Again there is lots of advice and suggestions, I’m going to continue getting ‘expert’ advice and move slowly on it, greater mortals than I have tried to ‘fix’ the Sound system and failed!
I’ll leave you on that ‘Note’
Fr. Philip Adm.
