Weekly Bulletin 26th & 27th May

You’ve done it again!!!!!!
The parishioners of Milltown have done it again; you’ve outdone yourselves in generosity! Brian Buggy spoke at Masses last week-end about the work done by Vita. He mentioned that last year the collection was €2,700, this year the collection to date is €3,060. In any financial climate this is a very generous response, but in the present Financial Climate this response is wonderful!
The name "Vita" means "Way of Life" which reflects Vita's goal to support local communities to build sustainable livelihoods and to become leaders of their own development. It was founded in 1989 by the late Fr Kevin Doheny CSSp. Vita works with local staff in Ethiopia, implementing a wide range of projects to empower communities to produce more food, earn an income and become self reliant.
The appeal last weekend focussed on the potato. (The humble spud, we Irish know a thing or two about ‘spuds’!) Development of potato farming amongst the rural communities in Ethiopia where Vita works is a four year project which ultimately aims to reach 5,000 farmers.
Vita members are working with farming families, providing seed potatoes. These potatoes are the product of research – they are disease resistant, they produce better crops. 1 bag = 10 bags in 6 months. The farmer returns 2 bags and uses the 8 for food and market. The 2 bags go to a seed store (funded by Vita) for the next crop - so this is sustainable. The bag of potatoes is not a hand out. It is repaid. The farmers’ income will go from €50 to €500 per year which makes a huge difference to that family. Vita is not about giving out food to hungry people, they support people in Ethiopia to grow their own food on a sustainable basis.

EUCHARISTIC CONGRESS PRAYER
Lord Jesus you were sent by the father to gather together those who are scattered.
You came among us, doing good and bringing healing, announcing the Word of salvation
and giving the Bread which lasts forever.
Be our companion on life’s pilgrim way.

May your Holy Spirit inflame our hearts,
enliven our hope and open our minds, so that together with our sisters and brothers in faith we may recognise you in the Scriptures
and in the breaking of bread.

May your Holy Spirit transform us into one body and lead us to walk humbly on the earth,
in justice and love, as witnesses of your resurrection.

In communion with Mary, whom you gave us as our Mother at the foot of the cross, through you may all praise, honour and blessing be to the Father in the Holy Spirit and in the Church, now and forever.
Amen
