Weekly Bulletin 18th & 19th August

HOW TO REAR A DELINQUENT.
The following is a list that was given to me many years ago, I re-discovered it recently. It’s worth a read.

1. Begin at infancy to give your child everything s/he wants; s/he will then grow up believing that world owes him/her a living.
2. When s/he picks up bad language, length; they will think it’s fun.
3. Avoid the use of the word wrong. S/he may develop a guilt complex.
4. Pick up everything they leave lying around. Arrange to do everything for them so that they will gain the experience in shifting responsibility for everything onto someone else.
5. Give him/her all the money they want. Never let them earn anything. Why should they have life as hard as you did!
6. Satisfy their craving for food, drink and comfort. See that his/her every desire is satisfied. Denial may lead to harmful frustration!
7. Take their part against neighbours, teachers and police. They are all prejudiced against your child.
8. Never give him/her any spiritual training. Wait until he/she is 21 and then let him/her decide for himself.
9. Prepare for life of grief, because you very likely to have it.

We are anxious to include as much information as possible on Parish based Congress events, if you have pictures and/or a written record of what happened in your parish, please contact Carol Faulkner at carol.faulkner@dublindiocese.ie or 01 8360723.

CHURCH SPEAKERS IN THE PARISH CENTRE
It’s a pity to see parents with their children standing in the porch during Mass. Why not pop over to the Parish Pastoral Centre if you feel your children need a little break? With the help of our newly installed speakers you will still be able to hear what is happening in the church. Feel free to return to the church after your children have had a little break.

Parish Child Protection Policy Statement
We, the Parish of Saints Columbanus and Gall, Milltown, in the Dublin Diocese, value and encourage the participation of children and young people in all parish activities that enhance their spiritual, physical, emotional and social development. We recognise the dignity and rights of all children and are committed to ensuring their protection.
In keeping with this we will do all in our power to create a safe environment for children and young people in order to secure their protection and enable their full participation in the life of the Church.
We appreciate the generous service of the adults who facilitate such participation and respect their integrity.

PARISH OPEN DAY
This years Parish Open Day will take place on Sunday September 9th. Additional volunteers are required to help out on the day. There is a Roster for Helpers available in the Parish Pastoral Centre. Please place your name on this roster as soon as possible if you are willing to help out for an hour or two at this Parish Event.
Due to the generosity of parishioners last year we were oversubscribed with food for this event. With this in mind we are asking parishioners to let us know in advance if they will be providing sandwiches etc. on the day. There is a list in the Parish Pastoral Centre which outlines the required amount of food. Please place your name beside the item which you are willing to provide on the day.

On Thursday, August 23rd. the volunteers who are organising this event will meet at 8pm. New volunteers particularly welcome.

Volunteering Sunday’
The parish will host a ‘Volunteering Sunday’ on September 16th.Representatives from all of the existing Ministries in the parish will be available in the Parish Pastoral Centre, after the morning Masses, to answer questions you may have about joining any of our voluntary groups
