Weekly Bulletin 21st & 22nd July

Dear IEC2012 pilgrim,
It is now one month since the Congress finished. What a wonderful week in June we had. There was a great deal of planning over the last 3 years. A Theology document was published. A two year pastoral programme of preparation was presented to every Diocese in Ireland and what a great response we received with so many people in Ireland and overseas participating. Our Congress Bell and Icons visited every Diocese in Ireland and also travelled to the UK, to Lourdes and to Rome. Our website is in 7 language versions with over 150 pages per site received over 2,529,600 page views. We recruited 2,000 volunteers and provided the training that was needed to run the week long programme. Staff and committees planned every detail and then worked with many suppliers to ensure that everything was in place before the 6th June. Our registration office registered over 95,000 pilgrims for the official programme. Over 20,000 additional people participated in the Dublin Pilgrim Walk and the host Church programme around the city. Millions joined us by watching the broadcasts on RTE, Salt and Light, EWTN and the many other TV, Radio and Web broadcasts.

Our hope is that you were enriched in your participation and that you will have discovered (or rediscovered) at firsthand what can be achieved when people work generously together for a common project.

Our links to the new information we have on our website will bring back memories of the week to you. We are now planning the production of a DVD of the opening and closing ceremony which will available in the autumn. You can still purchase the Congress medal and a number of other items; check our website for further details.
Thank you to our committees, our volunteers, our sponsors, supporters and our staff. Most importantly, thank you for being with us and making the 50th International Eucharistic Congress such a wonderful experience.

Yours sincerely,
Anne Griffin, General Manager, IEC2012

LOCAL AUTHOR! Copies of the recent publication called “Penal Places, Artifacts and People in the Archdiocese of Dublin” are available on our Church Book Rack and in the Parish pastoral Centre. This booklet, which was edited by Fr. Kevin Bartley from our neighbouring parish of Clonskeagh, The information presented tells the story of the survival of our faith in difficult times. A copy of this guide would fit in the glove compartment of your car and would be a very handy source of reference for you when you are visiting churches throughout the diocese.
