Weekly Bulletin 23rd & 24th March

A week and a Day
Last week I spoke about the Easter Triduum: you may remember that the Triduum starts on Holy Thursday and ends with The Vigil on Easter Saturday night, thus no opening or closing hymn on Good Friday.

The most significant Mass in the year is the Easter Vigil! We hope to have an infant Baptism this year too! (If there is an Adult Baptism then it would always take place at the Vigil).

After the long Lent we move to Eastertide. We’ve had no Alleluias during Lent: you may have noticed that there is no Alleluia for the Gospel or Gloria except St Patrick’s Day! So we go all out for the Easter Vigil and Eastertide. We celebrate each day for a week as if it were Easter Sunday. Yes, we even say/sing the Gloria for the Eight days from Easter Sunday till the Following Sunday (A week and a Day The Octave of Easter). The Easter Vigil ends with Go in Peace Alleluia Alleluia, Thanks be to God Alleluia Alleluia! And, yes the double Alleluia is on for the whole Octave.

Having survived Lent (in sombre mode) we have Eastertide to rejoice in the resurrection of Christ. In Eastertide White vestments are worn (the top colour, so to speak), we also have two New Testament readings, not the usual one Old Testament one New. And of course Eastertide is the same length as Lent.

In Milltown we are assisting the Diocese with a Pilot programme for Baptism Preparation. We’ll have the usual Baptisms on the first weekend for April and May, but we are also offering the Pilot programme which is the ‘Bells and Whistle’ one, during Eastertide with the Baptism on Pentecost Sunday May 19th during the Sunday Morning Mass.

Fr. Philip (Easter person!)

Thank you for the €1,369 which you donated to last Sunday’s collection for the Support of Priests of the Parish (& Dioceses) and for the Share Collection which amounted to €1023.

HYMN BOOKS:
The copies of the Hymnal which are available in the church are on loan from a neighboring parish. We ask parishioners to refrain from taking these books home with them!

Copies of this publication are now available for distribution. Parishioners are asked to collect a package of these cards and deliver them to the homes in their neighbourhoods. All help very much appreciated!

Congratulations to Hilary Casey and Patrick Devlin who were married in our church last week.

Today’s 10am Mass is for children who will be receiving their First Holy Communion here on Sun., May 13th. We welcome the children and their families to our Sunday Mass.

This collection will take place after all Masses this weekend. The proceeds of the collection are used to provide holidays for children in need, which are organised by a special works conference of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul.

Trocaire boxes are available for collection at the church doors. Please collect one on your way out.
