Weekly Bulletin 30th & 31st March

CELEBRATING BAPTISM
This Eastertide (between Easter Sunday and Pentecost) Milltown Parish will be part of a Pilot programme for Baptism preparation. About 10 other parishes in the Diocese are involved in the Pilot. I jokingly call it the ‘bells and whistles version’! It is, of course, much more.

Baptism is about GRACE. It celebrates our beauty and dignity in the eyes of God. It’s about rejoicing in the graced individual each one of us is in Christ.

Baptism is about COMMUNITY. It welcomes each person as a member of the Christian community. It is the first step of our entering into the community of faith.

Baptism is about NOW. It is about who I am and who we are, our new identity in Christ – much more than a distant memory. It is what we try to live out of each day, individually and together.

We are trying to bring out this meaning more and more. And so we are developing a new way of preparing for Baptism and celebrating Baptism.

In this new way, we are putting a big emphasis on
-The role of the whole Christian community – because Baptism is about the community welcoming a cherished new member;

-The role of the parents – because Baptism is about the gift they are to their children and what they have to offer in their children’s growth as Christians.
